ABOUT ME
Hello, my name is Shai Friedland.
I am a qualified Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), consulting in Johannesburg, from a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) allows for a structured, solution focused treatment directed toward modifying dysfunctional thinking and the behaviour behind adults, teens and children’s difficulties.
Having graduated with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Africa (UNISA) Cum Laude, I went on to complete both my internship and community service at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital. Further to my post-graduate qualification, I continue to receive online CBT training through the Beck Institute – a leading international source for training, therapy, and resources in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
I consult in private practice alongside a group of specialist CBT therapists, with my role focused toward treating Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety Disorders, Trichotillomania (Hair Pulling Disorder), Excoriation (Skin-Picking Disorder), Tic Disorders, Tourette’s Disorder, Hoarding Disorder, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), Weight Loss Management and Sports Psychology – both in an individual and group context.
I have had the pleasure of attending the World Congress of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (WCBCT) which took place in Boston and the European Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT) in Jerusalem of which has provided me with invaluable knowledge and insight to apply within my practice.
Often the decision to start therapy is a difficult one and finding a therapist can be daunting, however I encourage you to take the first step, by booking a consultation to discuss the process.
